What is an altered book? An altered book is any book, new or old, that has been recycled into a work of art by creative means. Altered books can be painted, printed, collaged, stamped, rebound, stitched, glued, embellished, cut, decorated, torn, ...........even re-named. The artist may use the title, do a play on words with it, expand on it or on some aspect of the original theme,.....or create an entirely new title and theme to fit her purpose. There are no rules.......no limits! And to those of you who are gasping at the idea of altering a book beyond recognition of it's former life, I ask you to think about this. what greater way to honor a book than to transform it into  art ?
